Kumon Method of Learning was developed in Japan in 1954 by Toru Kumon, a high school maths teacher, using Maths and English skills to develop the potential of children. Kumon is a supplementary learning programme for students of all ages and abilities. The Kumon method nurtures students to develop study skills and concentration, and to become more confident and independent.
Students are motivated by receiving an Achievement Certificate on successful completion of each level. There is also an Advanced Student Honour Roll for those students who progress to study beyond school grade level. Please visit the website, www.kumon.co.za, to find your nearest Study Centre.
The Kumon Method of Learning is designed to help any child of any ability progress to their maximum potential and become enthusiastic learners. The study programmes are designed to help learners think for themselves and develop strong problem-solving skills.
Every student will begin at a comfortable level for them. Their individual starting point, along with their expected projection rate, is established at an assessment.
The Kumon English Programme is not tied to any curriculum but complements learning across all subjects at school, giving students the freedom to become advanced, independent and enthusiastic learners, as well as thoughtful individuals.
